Special Representative of the President M. Ergün Olgun meeting with Under-Secretary General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo 

  “Turkish Cypriot Side’s six cooperation proposals that were conveyed to the Greek Cypriot Side in July via the UN Secretary General is based on a win-win philosophy for both Sides in Cyprus.”

Special Representative of the President M. Ergün Olgun met with the Under-Secretary General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Mr Olgun stated during the meeting that the Turkish Cypriot Side had in July conveyed six cooperation proposals to the Greek Cypriot Side via the UN Secretary-General that was prepared with a win-win philosophy. He said these proposals will transform the island of Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean region into one of stability.  

Mr Olgun, who shared the details about the cooperation proposals on different areas, invited the UN to take an initiative to encourage the Greek Cypriot Side to consider and take the proposals of the Turkish Cypriot Side forward.

With regards to the political process, Mr Olgun stated that anew and formal negotiations for a settlement can be started upon the reaffirmation of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the TRNC, which is an inherent right of the Turkish Cypriot people, that  is a position fully supported by the Republic of Türkiye.

Alongside Mr Olgun and Ms DiCarlo, Confidence Building Measures and Bilateral Technical Committees Coordinator Güneş Onar, Special Representative Osman Ertuğ and TRNC Washington Representative Office Third Secretary Denil Ertuğ Akın were present in the meeting.

The Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia and Americas in the United Nations Department of Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča also participated from the UN side.
