President Ersin Tatar has held a security meeting at the Presidency
The meeting, which started at 2pm, addressed potential dangers and necessary precautionary issues, in light of the recent outbreak of confict between Israel and Iran.
Following the meeting, President Tatar stated that based on the information he received from the Security Forces Command, the General Directorate of Police, and the Civil Defence Organisation, the shelters registered in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have a very high capacity and can be made ready swiftly if the need arises. He added that defence measures are also in place.
President Tatar also noted that he had a telephone conversation with the Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Türkiye, Yaşar Güler, during which he was informed that the conflict is currently limited in scope, and does not pose a high threat to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
"Mr Güler has stressed that in any potential scenario, the Republic of Türkiye is always prepared on land, sea, and air," President Tatar said.
President Tatar reminded that the Civil Defence Organisation regularly conducts drills related to possible disasters and emergencies. He stated that the possibility of conducting a war drill in the coming days, which would include the use of shelters and sirens, was also discussed during the meeting.
In addition to President Tatar, the meeting was attended by: Commander of the Security Forces Major General İlker Görgülü, Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, Deputy Commander of the Security Forces Brigadier General Mehmet Ali Akbaş, Presidential Undersecretary Okan Donangil, President of the Civil Defence Organisation Atilla Karaca, General Director of Police Kasım Kuni, Presidential Department Director Osman Çağakan, and civil defence expert personnel.
