The ceremony commenced with a moment of silence and the raising of the national flags, accompanied by the playing of the National Anthem. Following the laying of the wreath, President Erhürman signed the Special Memorial Book.
The ceremony was attended by Mehmet Harmancı, Mayor of Lefkoşa Türkish Municipality, Founding President's son
Serdar Denktaş, daughter Ender Denktaş Vangöl, and grandson Rauf Denktaş, among other distinguished guests.
In his message written in the Memorial Book, President Erhürman wrote:
“Dear Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş,
I write these lines today, in my capacity as the 6th President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, with full awareness of the deep sense of great responsibility and hope that history has placed upon us.
The resolve, courage, and wisdom you displayed throughout the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people for existence continue to guide and inspire us. You defended the honour, security, and freedom of our people, and we are determined to carry your legacy forward with the same devotion and strength.
We will work tirelessly to preserve our collective existence, to ensure that the Turkish Cypriot people attain their rightful place in the world, and to offer our children a peaceful, prosperous future.
You may rest assured that we will pursue these goals in unity and solidarity — not through division, but through inclusion — walking side by side with our people.
As I reaffirm our steadfast commitment to peace, contentment, and security of the Turkish Cypriot people, I bow before your cherished memory with the utmost respect and gratitude.”
Earlier in the day, following the official swearing-in ceremony in Parliament, President Erhürman also laid wreaths at the Atatürk Monument and at the Mausoleum of Dr Fazıl Küçük, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people in their struggle for existence and freedom.
