President Tatar meets with German Ambassador

President Ersin Tatar came together with German Ambassador Franz Josef Kremp this afternoon.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Kremp congratulated President Tatar on his election and wished him success in his new duty.

President Tatar explained the Turkish Cypriot side’s policy of sovereign equality and two-state position based on cooperation with the Greek Cypriot side and drew attention to the unacceptable isolations and restrictions imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people, particularly on direct flights. President Tatar reiterated the Turkish Cypriot side's demand to lift these isolations and asked of the EU to fulfill its past promises in this respect.

The President said that they expect for Germany's contribution to fair and equal treatment of the Turkish Cypriot side within the international arena and for the elimination of the political and economic imbalance between the two sides as well as the elimination of EU discrimination against the Turkish Cypriots .

President Tatar also explained with examples that the Turkish Cypriot side has shown a positive attitude to achieve a reconciliation in Cyprus for more than half a century, but the negotiations have not yielded results because of the intransigent attitude of the Greek Cypriot side. He stated that it is necessary to turn a new page in order to make progress on the Cyprus issue.

Kremp stated that Germany is always ready and will be pleased to help the parties if they wish, in order to reach a consensus on the Cyprus problem.
