President Ersin Tatar resolute in following the case closely with ultimate attention and sense of responsibility

President Ersin Tatar, in his written statement with regards to the earthquake disaster in Türkiye, indicated the following:

“We are in the aftermath of the earthquake disaster, which is called as the ‘disaster of the century’. Since the very first minutes of the disaster, in which dozens of our citizens as well as ten thousands of people lost their lives in Türkiye, we have spent intensive efforts with great responsibility aiming at minimising the effects of the disaster at the crisis desk formed at the office of the Presidency.
During my telephone conversation with Bekir Bozdağ, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Türkiye, I reiterated the investigation and justice demand of our authorities regarding each building where our citizens lost their lives, especially the Isias Hotel, and I underlined with great determination that the TRNC State will seek the rights and laws of its citizens.
Minister of Justice of Türkiye, Bekir Bozdağ reaffirmed that he is paying close attention to the issue and in order to take necessary action he directed the relevant authorities.
Pursuant to the decisions taken at the Council of Ministers I chaired, we have requested from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Ministry of Justice General Directorate of Criminal Affairs, Adıyaman Governor's Office, Adıyaman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to initiate a judicial investigation regarding the collapse of the Isias Hotel and to take samples before the building's debris is removed. In addition, after the meetings I held with the relevant authorities, the Republic of Türkiye has been closely interested in the issue and the first steps of the judicial process were taken by arresting those responsible for the destruction at the Isias Hotel.
As the President I would like to emphasise that I am resolute in following each step of the legal process with great attention and sense of responsibility. This is conscientious responsibility to the people we have lost and to their families.
I would like to share with my esteemed people that I will not hesitate to carry on my bilateral contacts until justice will be served in this bleeding case in the public conscience which resulted in great outrage among our society.
Moreover, it is necessary that the TRNC follows technology and the world with all its institutions in the light of science, and develops its working mechanisms, ready for any possibility, actively, fast and systematically under all circumstances.
I would like to underline that we will continue our comprehensive meetings with the experts at the office of the Presidency aiming at the reduction of disaster risks, the development of correct behavior by increasing the awareness of the society in terms of disasters and emergencies and the related legislation. I would like to make clear that I will be a supporter of any political step to be taken with regards to the safety of life and properties of our people."
