President Ersin Tatar receives YÖDAK officials: “Higher education is very important for the economy and promotion of the TRNC”

The significance of higher education in the TRNC, which is important in the academic success of individual students as well as enabling the promotion of the TRNC, was emphasised during a meeting between President Ersin Tatar and officials of Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK).

YÖDAK Chairman, Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı headed the delegation at the meeting, that was held today, where discussions were held in relation to the importance of the sector and the problems faced by students in higher education institutions and universities.
 
Pointing out the development of higher education in our country over the years,  President Tatar stated: “Higher education is the key to growth in performance, prosperity, and competitiveness in national and global economies.  However, it is also a very important sector of the TRNC and the promotion of our country worldwide.   Universities and other institutions not only deliver education and ongoing skills training, but also provide a comprehensive research environment that is conducive to producing innovations.”
 
 Drawing attention to the great investments made by universities and the importance of the connecting sub-sectors, President Tatar stated that universities are export of services. Stating that YÖDAK and all participants have great duties to manage the higher education sector in the best and qualified way in order to continue success with an increased quality, President Tatar recalled that the economy was adversely affected when there was no face-to-face education during the pandemic process.
 
 “TRNC has become renowned as an education brand on the international scale”
 
 President Tatar pointed out that there are students from 144 different countries in the TRNC, and drew attention “to the beauty of being able to host many cultures together”. He added that “the TRNC is an education brand on the international scale”.
 
President Tatar stated that it is “necessary to embrace the successes achieved in the higher education sector. . .with success that comes from hard work and sacrifice”.
 
Emphasising the need for legal regulations regarding YÖDAK and strengthening its foundation, the President wished the Chairman and members of YÖDAK success in their work.
 
YÖDAK Chairman Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı thanked the President for receiving them which he said “has enabled us to share the developments and problems being faced by higher education universities and institutions”.
 
 Expressing that they aim to take higher education in TRNC much further than its current level of success, Prof.  Avcı expressed his wishes for the “development of the foundation of YÖDAK and extending the scope of its legal practice” which he hopes can be implemented during the tenure of the new government.
