President Ersin Tatar has spoken of his “pride” after Turkish Cypriot Benjamin Walter, a 12th grade student from Güzelyurt Türk Maarif College, was notified of his acceptance to Harvard University in Massachusetts, USA.

The President “commended” Mr Walter and his teachers “for the outstanding success,” adding: “Harvard University is one of the oldest  higher education institutions in the US and is renowned for being one of the top universities in the world. We are very proud that a student from Güzelyurt Türk Maarif College from the TRNC has succeeded to get a place in Harvard. I commend you, your teachers and especially your family, who have contributed to your outstanding success.”

Noting that Benjamin Walter has “shown that anything can be achieved if you put your head and mind to it,” President Tatar stated that “very successful individuals are raised in the TRNC, both academically and culturally”.
“Despite all the negativities, obstructions and difficulties, our students show success in every field and are preparing themselves for the future,” he said.

President Tatar added: “Benjamin’s success has given us confidence. Despite all the negativities, obstructions and difficulties, our students show success in every field and prepare a good future for  themselves. The important thing is to embrace the TRNC with these achievements.   Our teachers and education system take care of their students, even if they moved to the TRNC from abroad. Other students also study and show success in universities abroad, in the Republic of Türkiye and in our country.”

“I wish success to Benjamin Walter in his future and to all students,” the President said.
