President Ersin Tatar pays tribute to Lütfi Özter who sadly passed away

President Ersin Tatar: “Lütfi Özter was a respected and well-known figure. We will never forget Lütfi Bey for his passion and devotion to the Turkish Cypriot cause and his services to our country.”

President Ersin Tatar has paid tribute to one of the founders of the Parliamentary Assembly,  Lütfi Özter, who was well known for his “patriotic personality” and who “provided great services to the Turkish Cypriot People” throughought his life.
 
 
The President participated in a ceremony that was held in the courtyard of the Parliamentary building.
 
 
The President said in a written statement upon hearing of the passing of Mr Özter:
 
 
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Mr Özter, who was a very popular figure among the Turkish Cypriot People and known for his patriotic and gentleman character. He provided with devotion great services to the Turkish Cypriot people as a member of the founding council, Turkish Resistance Organisation (TMT) training commander, teacher, general secretary of TÜRK-SEN trade union, general secretary of the Cyprus Turkish Parliamentary Union, journalist, writer and television presenter.   I wish God's mercy on the soul of Lütfi Özter, who was also the child of a martyr. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to his bereaved family and loved ones.”
 
 
President Tatar, who also addressed the Parliamentary ceremony alongside the coffin of Mr Özter that was draped with the Turkish and TRNC flags, stated that Mr Özter “grew up within a brave family and devoted his life to the Turkish Cypriot cause. He was a vehement defender of social insurance rights on television programmes, and a much loved and respected person. May he rest in eternal peace”.
 
 
Also participating in the ceremony were Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Dt. Ünal Üstel, Second President Mehmet Ali Talat, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party Tufan Erhürman, some ministers, deputies, parliamentary staff, family and loved ones of Lütfi Özter.
