President Ersin Tatar calls on YÖDAK President Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı to resign

President Ersin Tatar has called on Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı, President of the Higher Education Planning, Evaluation Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) to resign from this position

President Ersin Tatar has issued a written statement calling Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı, President of the Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) to resign from this position.
The statement reads as follows:
“Whilst police are conducting an investigation and a legal process is underway with regards to allegations of some incidents that have taken place at one of our universities, I applied to the Supreme Court of Justice requesting the dismissal of YÖDAK President Prof. Dr. Turgay Avcı.
As it is known, the authority to dismiss the YÖDAK President belongs only to the Supreme Court of Justice.
The Supreme Court of Justice has convened following my application on the matter which has ruled for the defence of YÖDAK President Avcı to be submitted within 15 days, for a report on the matter to be prepared within one month by Judge Gökhan Asafoğulları as the investigative judge assigned to this case, and if deemed appropriate, for disciplinary investigation to be initiated against YÖDAK President Avcı.
I would once again like to reiterate here that I have full confidence in the judiciary.
I believe that at this stage YÖDAK President Avcı should resign from his position in order to enable the formation of a new structure in YÖDAK whilst the legal process is continuing taking into account presumption of innocence."
