President Ersin Tatar attended the opening of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education Workshop held at Golden Tulip Hotel in cooperation with the Higher Education, Planning, Accreditation, Evaluation and Coordination Council (YÖDAK) and the Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK).

Starting his speech by expressing his condolences to those who lost their lives in the earthquake disaster that occurred in Türkiye on February 6th, President Tatar stated that a significant portion of the university students in the TRNC came from Türkiye, and that many of the 13 thousand students in the earthquake regions are planning to return to the TRNC to continue their education.

President Tatar noted that the way to be followed regarding the students affected by the earthquake should be shared as soon as possible. Committees are established in the Parliament on this issue, decisions should be taken as soon as possible and resources should be allocated, he added.

Noting that international students who graduated from the TRNC universities are honourary ambassadors, President Tatar mentioned that many people, who come from different countries and study in the TRNC, become ministers, deputies and judges in their countries.

Expressing that this process should continue by getting stronger, President Tatar added that the first years in the sector were the most difficult. The President stated that progress would be much easier thanks to experience, knowledge and institutional memory.

President Tatar stated that the quality that will come to the light with the establishment of criteria and mechanisms in the education sector will carry education forward. He pointed to the self-confidence by this saying, "We may not be recognised, but we have struggled to exist in this country for centuries."

“Education sector, permanent sector”

Expressing that the education sector is different from the tourism sector and that the education sector, which is a permanent sector, has the potential to grow continuously, President Tatar said that it is possible to go further in the education sector than tourism.

President Tatar noted that education is not just about the lessons read from the books, but culture and way of life, President Tatar emphasised to maintain the corporate structure and image created with great sacrifices.

Adding that it is easier to grow and strengthen the sector at this point, President Tatar stated that it is everyone’s duty to work for this.
