Briefing held at the Presidency regarding the photovoltaic park being planned in the Buffer Zone

“Utilising solar energy more effectively is essential”

President Ersin Tatar received Prof. Dr. Murat Fahrioğlu from the Middle Eastern Technical University and Prof. Dr. Serkan Abbasoğlu from the Cyprus International University – who are both providing technical expertise on behalf of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
 
The President was briefed about the final stage of the pre-feasibility study for the photovoltaic park, which is being planned to be built in the buffer zone in accordance with the agreement reached by President Ersin Tatar and the Greek Cypriot leader.
 
President Tatar stated during the meeting that the Island of Cyprus enjoys a very advantageous climate in terms of solar energy and added that the contemplated energy power plant will be beneficial to the two Sides, the two Peoples and the Island. He said it will also serve as an exemplary model for cooperation.
 
The President emphasised that electric energy is a necessity for both Sides, and that the implementation of this project will pave the way to more comprehensive cooperation in the future. He said the ultimate goal is to have an interconnection system to the EU grid via the Republic of Türkiye, so that solar energy can be used more effectively.
